[Boatanchors] SP-600 alignment problem

One thing I have struggled with is how to set/check the phasing control on
my SP-600. The two peaks in the crystal filter may mean that the phasing
is not set for a symmetrical passband. I've tried unsuccessfully up until
now to do a swept measurement- I think I need a sweep generator to get a
clean measurement. So I've fiddled with the setting of the phasing control,
then slowly tuned around to see if the passband is symmetrical. When I was
satisfied, I peaked the generator on the crystal, then did the rest of the
alignment. I also noted that there was a dot of red paint on the phasing
shaft, which might imply the zero setting. You can check that, but I found
two marks and I had to fiddle around too select the right one.
I did all my alignments in manual mode, with a 4 Mc RF input, so I don't
have to clip the generator into the receiver. Obviously, you want the radio
all warmed up. I then bring the generator output up just enough to get a
good reading at the audio terminals. However, I haven't looked closely to
see if my radio performs any better. Let me know if you want a check.
