Quite frankly, I think your post smacks of "trolling", that is, making 
controversial statements just to get a large reaction.

I think if you'd stopped with the issue of SWL'ing leading to amateur 
radio, which it did in my case, it would have been fine and would have 
elicited a number of nostalgic replies.  All the politico-cultural 
commentary is just asking for a big reaction.
