[Boatanchors] Speaker Re-coning

Well considering that junk AA5's, overpriced Catalins included along
with their fool buyers, arent considered as having quality speakers in
the first place and generally use a standard low end speaker with common
mounting, then a new replacement isnt completely out of line. BUT,
anyone familiar with Catalins would know that the last thing a buyer
would want to do is use it. That holds with most plastic junk.

A recap, etc is considered a negative, a wash or a plus depending upon
the buyer and sellers competence and full disclosure photos of the work.

However the real radios that were high end custom built when new are
only considered correct with their original and most often uniquely
identifiable speakers. Many more mundane sets have unique sizes and
mounts. I can understand if you havent reached that level yet; it is a
step up from the AA5.

I would also consider anyone replacing the speaker in a Hallicrafters
R-12T or bass reflex cabinet with a modern replacement to be no more
than a hack that would be more at home with a S-38.

Your mileage may vary.

I have my voice coil and and cones done by SRS Enterprises in Colorado
Springs.
