[Boatanchors] In defense of Eldico

That's odd.
The Eldico stuff I see seems to be built pretty well. There's one Eldico
I know well. It's the SSB 100F ssb transmitter. I use one in my shack
along with a Heathkit SB 303 on 20m ssb. I usually check it into the Sunday
nets. The SSB 100F is so old it has 11 meters on the band switch! The
material and construction is as good as any Collins gear from that period -
late 1950's. A couple of things that make this Eldico interesting is the
low frequency crystal filter ssb generation and the ease of removing the vfo
for service. The built in signal scope is handy to set microphone levels
too.
This rig wasn't part of the MARS effort back then, it's a ham transmitter
and a good example of a quality rig.
Edsel? no way!
