If it wasnt for the hams you wouldnt be here complaining about them as that
one on Ebay wouldnt exist. The military valued the hams contributions in WW2
and made the effort to get surplus to them. If that hadnt happened it all
would have been scrapped as is done these days. Good luck trying to build a
collection of modern military gear.
Sure, many were modified but others were just put away sometimes in original
boxes.
Considering the tiny minority that collect military gear there still seems
enough to go around. The ATC I picked up a few years ago is an example of
something that was never touched by the ham who bought it in 1947 from a
surplus dealer. I made just enough minor reversible changes to be able to
use it.

I am NOT a ham. I value and respect mil gear for what it is.
I really DO NOT think that 'converting' mil radios for ham use does
anything but degrade and destroy them, and makes them almost completely
valueless.
Most, if not all, of the conversions I've seen substitute hack engineering
for good design.
