[Boatanchors] Heathkit HX 20 mobile SSB transmitter

Hi:

I picked up a decent HX 20 mobile SSB  transmitter at the Carey NC hamfest last weekend.  Would like to put it on the air and have a power supply to run it with.
My question to the group is: Is this transmitter clean and stable enough to get on the air and make QSO's?  I had another one years ago and fired up everything except the 6146 PA.  The rig seemed to run ok but generated alot of heat for it's size and tube count.
Is the Heathkit mobile SSB receiver worth chasing down to mate with the HX 20?
The receiver set aside for the project is a Heath HR 1680.
