YES!  That was it!  Thank you.  The only difference was that I just
wrapped the ends of the loop around the crystal's pins rather than go
to the trouble of making a socket.  Actually, I don't think it occured
to me to use a socket.  :-)

While I supposed I could have, I never did acid etch but stuck with
grinding by hand.  It let me feel more in control ... not that t
really mattered in the end.

Huh?  They don't even let me have sharp objects so acid's probably out
of the question.  :-)
