Hi Everybody,
I'm downsizing and cleaning up. I have a Heathkit TX-1 Apache
transmitter for sale. The TX-1 does CW/AM/SSB on 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10
meters. An outboard adapter is required for SSB. The modulator (AM)
tubes were removed from this before I got it and I used it on CW. I
would like to get $200 for this unit. I have tubes for most of the
modulator section but do not have a 12AX7 nor the 6CA7 output tubes.
I'll include the ones I have and I'll burn a copy of the PDF manual I
have. Local pickup is best due to the weight (over 100 pounds) but I
will try to accommodate anybody who is interested in it. With local
pickup you get to see it work before you hurt yourself lifting it.
The case has numerous scratches in the paint but the front panel is
almost perfect. The dial drum has a small crack at each end on the 15
meter band but no missing pieces. The mode switch knob has some small
marks on it where somebody used pliers to turn it. I lubricated and
freed the mechanism so that you can operate the switch with your
fingers. The knobs are polished or plated aluminum and attempting to
remove the small marks might ruin the knob. There are some traces of
rust at the back edge of the chassis and small amounts of rust on some
of the screws scattered throughout the unit (its *old*). There is dust
in hard to reach places inside, too, and I'll include that at no extra
charge.
The TX-1 was sitting on a shelf for several years so I set it up and
brought it up gingerly - ran it with plate voltage turned on for several
hours. It still tunes up smoothly on all bands and has a clean note in
my receiver. I can't test the AM mode without the tubes but all the
other parts are there and I get the carrier in that mode. It's a good,
solid, *HEAVY* transmitter for somebody who likes boat anchors. I just
don't have room for it any more (I chose to keep the DX-100). Call or
email me to make an offer and arrangements.
