Anything sealed in glass resin will be moisture proof. Then paint that to
look antique and then wind the coil. Hold the windings in place with Q Dope
whih is era correct. Even National had it in their 1934 catalog ands its use
in QST goes back long before that. GC sells it today.
Id still stay far away from varnish or shellac around RF. Use that stuff on
the wood base or panel.
