[Boatanchors] Civil Defense Viking II

Hi Folks,

I have seen a couple of pictures of a special "Civil Defense" model
Viking II, and in fact, there's one on EBay right now. What I would
like to know is if someone could explain the difference(s) between the
standard Viking II and the "Civil Defense" model. The seller of the one
on EBay describes the transmitter as "continuous tuning from 1.7 - 30
MHz". Since the Viking II uses a roller inductor in the tank circuit, I
just assumed all of the Viking II's would pretty much tune up anywhere
on the HF bands. I guess I was mistaken. I've had my Viking II about 6
mos, but due to antenna space restrictions at my current residence, I
haven't put it on the air yet. Once I get moved into my new house, that
situation will be rectified post-haste!

Anyway, I would be deeply grateful if someone could explain the
differences between the two versions of the Viking II, and if there are
actual component differences, I'd love to have a copy of the manual if
someone has (what I assume is) the special manual which covers the
"Civil Defense" version of the Viking II.

Thanks!

Mike, WB0LDJ
