I totally concur. I LOVE my hakko 808. I don't know how I lived all
these years without it! Hihi!

I've even used it to "borrow" chips from working equipment in
troubleshooting non-working equipment. Then I put the chip back! That's
how reliably and cleanly and non-destructively this works.

The chips do totally fall into your hand.
(yes I know bad idea to borrow chips)

Eugene

This is just an observation.

Recently, a local ham operator had to replace the mega-chip in his Yaesu

FT-736R. He borrowed a friend's Hakko 808 desoldering tool. He moved
from pin to pin with the 808 and when he got to the last pin, the chip
just dropped out onto the table. It was a simple job then to solder in
the new chip.

The Hakko 808 is not cheap but then the results seem to be outstanding.
