It should definately should be placed bewteen the transmitter and the
antenna tuner/coupler/transmatch. (Preferably in a 50 ohm "circuit" devoid
of any reactance. If you have an amplifier of some sort, the between the
output of the amplifier and the antenna tuner/coupler/transmatch.
If you are using it on SSB,after a preliminary "barefoot" tuneup the two
tone audio oscillator contained in the SB-610 will be of a great aid getting
the amplifier tuning and coupling setup for maximum PEP power and LINEARITY
using the trapezoidal pattern. You will be able to see the distortion if
things are setup incorrectly (like relying on full power "CW" tuneup which
oft times isn't correct.) You will see the effect of setting amplifier's
controls properly to give you the cleanest sugnal possible and most power
output at the same time.
