If its a big transformer the oven will never get the core center warm.
I have a 3.5 kVA one that was stored in an open garage for about 30
years and it was built in 1946 for industrial use. Way too heavy for the
oven anyway.
I shorted the outer secondary leads and put a Variac on the primary with
a series ampmeter on primary and secondary and fuses.
Brought it up to half rated secondary current and let it sit for a day,
then up to 75% for another day.
Its been in the basement running the big AM KW for a year now.
