Rule #1 NEVER plug in a battery tube with the AC power turned on.
The 1R5 mixer is the most troublesome of the 7 pin TO's and is quite
pricey these days. There are subs but none that work 100%.
A recap is always a smart move on any radio that age. Its a bit of a
struggle in any of the TO's.
