Take a look at the eHam site. There is an EXCELLENT blow-by-blow
description of changing the IF freq. It's listed on the main page.

Subject: [National] Repro Meter Face Software - FREE TRIAL VERSION
Thanks to the many, many folks who requested the repro S-meter face I
came
up with for my NC-303 receiver.
Hopefully my individual return emails this morning got to all of you OK.
If not, let me know and I'll re-send it to you.
I cannot take credit for the amazing software that I used to build it.
The program has an S-meter template that I modified to suit my needs.
If you want to try to make other meter faces, the FREE TRIAL version of
the
software can be found at: <http://www.tonnesoftware.com/meter.html>
http://www.tonnesoftware.com/meter.html.
It took me a while to work thru it to get what I want, but once you get
the
hang of it, it worked GREAT!

Greetings. Since I got no response on the Heathkit list, I will try
here. I
have a SB620 that I would like to hook up to a R7000 that has a 10.7
meg IF
output. The 620 is set up for 6000kc range at the present time. Has
anyone
used one on the R7000 and if so what type of interface did you use.
Thanks for any info.

You could build a small solid-state 16.7 MHz mixer whose output is tuned
to 6000 KHz. The R-7000 10.7 MHz IF would feed the mixer. The issue
might
be getting enough gain to drive the SB-620. By building a mixer, you
bypass having to cannibal the innards of the SB-620 circuitry.

I was faced with a similar problem some years ago when I wanted to use
a
Heath HO-13 band-scope (input 455 KHz) with a Drake R-4C receiver (IF
approximately 5.5 MHz, if I remember correctly) . I ended up building
a
small crystal-controlled converter using 6BE6 mixer, but using a
separate 6C4 oscillator. I used a re-tuned 4.5 MHz TV sound IF
transformer for the input, and decided to use an untuned output with
just an RF choke in the 6BE6 plate circuit, and got great results.
The output bandwidth was sufficiently wide so I could easily display a
range of 100 KHz centered on 455 kHz with good results. Not precision
test equipment, to be sure, but certainly good enough to see what was
going on up and down the band. For a circuit, I adapted the 10 MHz
WWV
converter shown for several ARRL handbooks in the mid 60s.

Here's a mixer I built to use a Kenwood SM-220 band scope (BS-8) with a
Yaesu FT-1000D. The same principle could be used to adapt your SB-620
for the R-7000.

The R7000 IF out is nominally 10.7 but is at a very low level and
wideband. So you will probably need some gain in whatever you build to
ensure correct operation of the 620. I dont know what input level
range it needs but the R7000 IF out is close to input signal
level-little or no overall gain in the receiver to that point.

Id like a copy of that Gary, my own tube inventory is getting totally
out of control!
I have a vintage P2-333 PC dedicated to DOS 6.2 for YO/AO antenna
programs as well as many old 286/386 era engineering programs.

I restored several SB-620s and HO-13s, and while they're neat to play
with, my conclusion is they're pretty much a novelty. Don't know what
you're looking for, but if you want a calibrated and consistent
panadaptor function, I'd consider using an SDR instead. The cheapest
approach would be KB9YIG's "Softrock" which I know has been
successfully
used at 10.7mhz. See http://www.softrockradio.org/SoftRock and the
Yahoo Softrock group for more information. With a premium sound card
you'll be able to see +\- 96 khz with all the features of the (free)
SDR
software such as waterfall display, multimode receive, etc.
