I have found this thread to be very interesting and timely. I am about half
way through building my "ultimate" hollow state xmtr to match my HBR rcvr.
One of the design criteria was that everything had to be self contained in the
xmtr, no outside accessories such as low pass filters, swr bridges or keyer
were permitted.
In the choice of the keyer circuit to use, however, I shied away from the TO
keyer since it isn't iambic. I have two TO keyers and I never could get used
to them; guess I've spent too much time using modern iambic keyers. So I
have resigned myself that, in spite of the fact that everything else in this xmtr
will use tubes, including the VFO and side tone oscillator, the keyer will be
based on the Curtis 8044 chip. As a compromise to form, however, the keyer
will be built upon an octal plug and plug into the xmtr as though it was a
tube, hi.
