[Boatanchors] A challingling problem with a National NC-300

Gentlemen.

Here is a head scratcher for you. Before you read on, some of the best
brains in the amateur world, Gene, WØQFC, Brian VE3IX, and of course myself,
VE3UU, have had a go at the problem. Only Brian, VE3IX has enough hair left
to continue to scratch. I'm now bald and I think Gene may be as well
although he's been helping via email and we've never met.

Here is the problem in a nutshell. The dial drum with the band markings on
it does not track the band switch. To elaborate, when the dial drum is set
to properly display on the lowest band, whenever I rotate the band switch,
the display rotates 1/8th of an inch more than it should. This results in
the display being seriously out of sync with the band switch position.

Also the actual band switch seems to be rotating slightly more than it
should with each detent of the band switch knob. (Are you confused yet? I
certainly am!)

We've checked the size of the dial drum and it's the proper size. It seems
that the knob is rotating very slightly more than it should.

I suspect that this is one of those problems that will only solved by the
only other person in the world who also experienced it and found the
solution. Don't let that stop you from having a go at it. :>)

If you're up to the challenge, and many won't be, let me know what you need
to know and I'll be happy to give you whatever information I can.

73,
Brian Jeffrey
