A VFO might be a better choice as vintage crystals are rarely on their
marked frequency. With several AMers now using synchronous detectors or
high level BFO injection into a diode detector its nice when everyone is
on the same frequency.
Now all you have to do is stabilize the VFO or get a good one such as
the Heath HG-10 series or an old ARC-5 TX. Some even use a quality
signal generator.
