BBOD usually stands for "black beauty of death". Those that were used by Collins Radio in the 75A-4 are especially bad. Collins used primarily brown colored plastic capacitors in the 75A-2 and 75A-3. Those are usually leaky as well.

I've gathered that a "BBOD" is one of the old plastic cased paper caps. Does "BBOD" stand for "Bumble Bee of Death?"....referring to the Sprague Bumble Bee trade name?  That would be an appropriate name for those......they suck, like all old paper caps that I've ever ran across. I even had some paper caps that were sealed in ceramic tubes with some sort of epoxy looking stuff...they were from the 1960s...and they were bad too.
