[Boatanchors] BBODs and others

I think the reference is "Black Beauty of Death." Not sure, tho.
I just recapped a NC183D that used a lot of tubular caps that may have been
ceramic, but I replaced them anyway. They're cheap enough, and in this case
had easy access.
I have a few dozen Boatanchors that I use fairly regularly, and have never
had a cap short and destroy anything. Maybe just lucky, but I do replace the
ones that look fishy. The only one of mine that I recapped totally is a
HQ129X that had sticky wax caps. (The 183D project is for someone else)
It pains me to see the personal attacks on this (and other lists). I've
been a ham for 50 years now, and have received and given much help and
derived countless hours of pleasure from this hobby. Can we all vow to wait
a couple of hours before hitting the "send" button when commenting on
controversial issues? Reconsidering an email or two may save some
embarrassment on behalf of the senders, and sadness among the rest of us!
Remember, we're all doing this for fun!

I've gathered that a "BBOD" is one of the old plastic cased paper caps.
Does "BBOD" stand for "Bumble Bee of Death?"....referring to the Sprague
Bumble Bee trade name? That would be an appropriate name for
those......they suck, like all old paper caps that I've ever ran across.
I even had some paper caps that were sealed in ceramic tubes with some
sort of epoxy looking stuff...they were from the 1960s...and they were
bad too.
Thanks,
Alex
