Mark,

Your "twiddle" method has been discussed by Al Parker and others.

Some parts even came with the twirled ends in days of yore.

The TV techs had a tool for this in their tool caddy.

I've got an old tool on the bench.

The only lugs I ever worry about are the "stand-off" style in the 
R-390As.  I bought about a hundred of them so as to NOT worry if I broke 
one.  They are blue instead of the brown that was initially used.  If 
that disturbs someone, then they'll get over it.

I find the clip lead and wrap the new one around the old to be of use in 
the turret of the SP-600.  There simply is extremely little room!
