Hi Keith - when I built my 4-1000A back in the 1990's, I used the K2AW 
Silicon Alley rectifier blocks. I used the four of biggest ones he had 
to build a bridge. My supply was around 5 kV. They were 14 kV at an 1 amp

I see he still has an ad in QST but no web site. His prices are very 
reasonable IMHO.
