[Boatanchors] Need Help on National NC-300 Receiver

Hi,

I'm working on an old NC-300 I recently picked up off EB at y. The
receiver has a number of issues, which I'm slowly working through. I
need a little help (advice?) regarding the mounting for the dial drum.
I had one of these receivers back in the Seventies, but I don't remember
enough about it to do me any good with this one.

The dial drum on this receiver has a shaft on the left (meter) end of
the drum, which is staked into the drum endplate and supported by a
vertical bracket and secured by a spring washer and an "E" clip. On the
opposite end of the drum (with the dial cord pulley), there's a 1/4"
shaft with one end threaded for a 6-32 screw. There's a 6-32 screw and
a flat washer screwed into this shaft, and the shaft is slid through the
1/4" hole in the chassis end bracket and into the 1/4" hole in the
center of the dial pulley. There's nothing holding this shaft in place,
other than friction.

If there's someone out there who is familiar with the mounting
arrangement for the NC-300 dial drum, could you please tell me how the
right-hand (pulley) end of the drum is supposed to be mounted and
secured. The current arrangement looks like a botched attempt to repair
the drum (probably by the same person who twisted a couple of wires
together under the chassis and used a wire nut to hold them in place).
My guess is that there originally was a shaft similar to the one on the
opposite end of the drum, with a retainer clip of some sort, but I'm not
sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
