I'm not a ham but do collect and occasionally operate WW II military radios.
Initially, I just didn't feel like learning the code, and now that's it's no
longer required have not bothered with getting a ticket. I'm just not that
interested in operating.
That said, it's almost impossible for anyone these days to build a rig even
close to as good as you can buy, except possibly for a linear amp. The
technology has just advanced too far. BTW, the same can be said of a car, boat,
house, sweater, or a table.
