There were a "whole bunch" of 1625s sold and used in SSB amp applications in 
the '60s.
P&H Labs, I think, had a grounded grid amp using 4 of the "specially 
modified" beam
power amplifier tubes, 1625s, in their LA-400.

I always dreamed of getting ahold of 837s as they didn't need the surgery 
and were 6V,
all the 1625s I came across were the RCA brands, (10-25cents each) that were 
not
modifyable. (sp?).
