These days its very easy to build regulated SS power supplies. They work 
wonders for oscillator stability.

The larger crystals (bigger than the FT-243) also help when using a big 
tube in the oscillator.

Many thanks to all who responded. Many ideas there. I to like the looks 
of the tube
and want a battery powered transmitter and somewhat qrp, so the 1625 
seems ideal.
Have plenty of them on hand. Will first try one of the 807 circuits 
using the 1625 and
running running much reducted voltage on the plate. Haven't built 
anything for many
years.
