Bob,

Consider that the "CB" crowd used to attach them, (NE-2s), to their 
antennas, foolishly, to watch them glow when they keyed down, speaks 
volumes as to their inadequacy for Rcvr protection.

To prevent static damage to the input of R-390s, there is a MUCH 
healthier neon bulb installed in the antenna relay housing.
