This post got me thinking about using a HiFi / Stereo preamp as an audio
front-end in my shack.

I have a wonderful Heathkit AA-2 stereo preamplifier that makes a huge
difference providing richer highs and more pronounced low-end response when
placed in front of an audio amplifier. Those five 12AX7's really do their
job!

Has anyone had any experience enhancing their SSB transmit audio using a
preamp like this between the microphone and the microphone input of the rig?
I guess "enhance" is personal preference, but I would prefer richer fidelity
over pinched / compressed "work that DX" HC-4 type audio.

I know the audio passband of my FT-1000D (and MD-100 microphone) is
inherently shaped to favor a "communications" passband, and I don't intend
to make any modifications to the rig. I would think I could get a wider,
more custom-shaped response with a studio-type microphone followed by the
preamp.

I would think I could use a resistive voltage divider at the input of the
rig to both match impedance and limit drive so as not to blow the preamp
already in the rig.
