You nearly overlooked the Hallicrafters SR-2000. It is capable of 2000 watts input and will deliver 1000+watts to the antenna on 10 meters and 1200 watts on all other bands if properly aligned and operating to specs. We used it in AM mode several years ago using an HP 8640B signal generator driving the 12BY7 8122 driver. The HP 8640B has an input for AM or FM. You have to drive the 8640B with an audio preamp to get 100% modulation as a Mike does not have enough drive to modulate 100%. We used an SX-100 Mark2B for the receiver --- didn't take the time to add an AM detector. With AM coming back, might revisit the project and add the AM function. I believe that the SR-2000 was the only 2000 watt desktop transceiver ever to come into production. ---Kindest regards Jim K9AXN
