[Boatanchors] Interesting National Radio info

When I was with Collins Radio one of the lead
engineers was dating a woman who worked in personnel. 
He got her to make him an i.d. badge with Alfred E.
Newman's (of Mad Magazine fame) name and photograph. 
He wore the badge for several weeks and not a single
building guard ever noticed.

Unfortunately, Art Collins heard about the badge
(although not who was wearing it) and went looking for
the culprit.  Fortunately, the engineer was warned and
stopped wearing the badge.


Collins Radio had 4 different types of i.d.  Union
members wore a green badge, non-union hourly employees
wore a blue badge (which was being phased out for a
white badge), salaried personnel had a white badge,
and certain executive personnel had both a white badge
and a special green identification card.  Although I
definitely was not on the executive payroll somehow I
got issued one of the special identification cards.

One morning I had to go to one of the buildings that
was "off campus" from the rest of the Collins complex
and I just forgot my regular "white badge".  I was on
the freeway before I noticed that I wasn't wearing my
i.d.  But then I remembered my special "green card" so
I didn't go back home for my regular badge.  When I
got to the building I "flashed" my "green card" but
the guard would not let me in.  I explained to him
that my card was definitely a Collins Radio
identification but he still would not allow me
entrance.

I demanded that he call his supervisor and finally he
made a telephone call.  It took about 10 minutes
before the supervisor arrived.  The supervisor took
one look at my "green card" and fell all over himself
apologizing.  He immediately activated the door lock. 
Now I would not have liked to have been in the guard's
shoes because as I walked through the door I could
hear the supervisor shouting and the names he was
calling the guard certainly were not complimentary.
