[Boatanchors] backwards tuning

Anchorites,

A Motorola radio (AM & SW) belonging to a friend has come my way for repair
- fix "Grandpa's radio".

It has sensitivity and a couple of other problems but this one documented
below is new to me.

As best as can be determined the dial appears strung correctly (no data in
Riders on dial stringing) but it tunes backwards.

The dial pointer moves in what appears to be the proper direction - the same
direction as the knob is turned but the local stations at 1270, 1340 and
1520 are received in reverse order. Needless to say the dial is way off for
all.

Have I had a mental lapse? At the moment I can think of no electrical
problem that would cause reverse tuning. Having the oscillator on the wrong
side of the received station can cause the dial to be way off but not
reversed.

So, am I missing something or what.

Gerry
