Talk of "vintage Field Day" reminded me to scan and post this great old
photograph I've had for some time. I can't remember where I found it -
probably stuck in an old book or catalog I picked up. But it captures
what I'm sure is a true "vintage" Field Day station:

There's no mistaking the RME-69 with it's distinctive speaker, but the
transmitter is a bit of a head-scratcher. Definitely has the
"Collins-like" appearance but in fact it's an RCA ACT-40. 160 thru 20
meters, with a pair of 801s modulated by another pair of 801s for 40
watts output on AM. Certainly a top-of-the-line store-bought setup for
the late 30's or early 40s.

One thing's for sure - you'd need lots of strong backs to set up a FD
station like this!
