Gene,

Take your rings and other metal off.

Use a long wood stick alignment tool.

You have to do it out of the cabinet on the bench.

OOPS. A wood bench.

Your looking to not change the magnetic fields between the alignment location 
and the final in the cabinet location of the chassis.


Having done a few hundred alignments in this life, my experience is if done 
with some common sense, the difference between the chassis on the bench and 
back in the cabinet is not enough to worry about. A couple months of tube aging 
will produce more variance than the exactness of your efforts at getting it all 
exact.
