My understanding is that the HC-10 is essentially the IF / audio
circuitry from the HQ-170 / HQ-180 receivers. Strangely enough, HQ-170s
(Ham band only version) usually sell considerably cheaper than HC-10s. I
have used my HQ-170 as a sideband demodulator for other receivers
lacking them. Worked fine.
