Carl,
Oh Oh! Another of the seventies working Side Band by turning the rig on its
side? As impossible as it seems, some people I knew actually did this!
Being totally blind Carl, I can tell you all about whether it is on my left
or your right or the converse!
I remember very well one instance of that that nearly vanished the Magician,
rather than the Rabbit! While setting up for the performance, i was
wandering across the large stage carrying the 35 pound sound case with my
right hand. My daughter, the green eyed brunette in the photo on the HHI web
site in the "Meet Net Control" area, told me to take three steps to my
right. What I found three steps to my right was NOT the table where the
sound equipment was waiting, but the edge of that stage! I dropped about
seven feet straight down like a rock! The sound case made a dandy anchor!
Fortunately for me I hit the auditorium floor while still standing vertical!
I think my jaw touched my shoe tops! Carl, trust me, that stops you very
quckly! Talk about rattling your bones!
My stage manager, and body guard, came running, as did my sound man! I just
stood there for maybe fifteen seconds, partly surprised and partly afraid to
move for fear of body parts falling off! My daughter was in shock. She is
left handed and was facing me when she told me to take those three steps to
my right. A very easy mistake to make, as we forget to reverse right and
left when we instruct someone else where to look. Our right or theirs.
Other then shaken up, I was not injured. The fall was a breeze, but that
sudden stop is a real attention getter!
