Will your spouse know what an LDG Autotuner, Icom IC-756 Pro II,
ProSisTel rotor, Johnson Valiant, Collins 32V-3, and 3-1000Z are...after
you are gone. Whatever you do with regard to a ham radio inventory,
take pictures and clearly label them.
Rather than use a spreadsheet that was intended for numerical
manipulation or a dbms program that would take a lot more time than you
are willing to spend on the project, why not use one of the many
freeware inventory programs that are available. The Insurance
Information Institute has one available called "Know Your Stuff" at:
http://www.knowyourstuff.org/
The program that I am looking at most carefully is Keeper 2.7 which is
described as follows:
"With Keeper, you can organize your collections on your windows PC,
customize the information you want to track, import items from Ebay,
print detailed built-in reports including pictures, design your own
custom reports with our built-in editor, and publish your collection to
the Internet. Keeper is easy to use and has a built in help file
included." It can be downloaded from
http://www.download.com/Keeper/3000-2131_4-10692704.html?tag=lst-0-5
If neither of these two programs make your foot pat, then I would
suggest that you use Google and search for "home inventory." You will
be amazed at the number of specialty data base programs that have been
written and are available for downloading. Perhaps you would rather go
straight to C|Net's www.download.com and search for Home Inventory programs.
There are many programs that would be suitable for an inventory of ham
gear and which allow the attachment of digital photos which will help
your surviving spouse or children sort through your ham radio equipment
and distinguish the Hallicrafters SX-25 from the SX-115. You certainly
know the difference, but would they? As Mr. Kodak was fond of saying,
"A picture is worth a thousand words."
