[Boatanchors] Tarnish on APC Var. Caps.

FWIW -


Silver oxide, as found on the plates of APC  type miniature capacitors,  
need not be removed.  The conductivity of silver is not compromised by 
normal oxidation.  At least according to several publications.   Also, 
the silver is usually applied as a thin coat by means of 
electro-plating.  Excessive scrubbing runs the danger of removing the 
plating, which is obviously not someting a person wants to do.  
Finally., using tarnish removers runs the risk of some residue from the 
chemicals remaining in the moving joints of the parts in question.  That 
also is probably not a good  thing.
