Hi Greg,
You can also check out August in the 2001/2002 CQ Radio Classic Calendar
for another picture of this transmitter and a small amount of information.
I have one that's an updated, probably salesman's sample, of the same unit
and they are built like the proverbial "Battleship." Mine has a slightly
different layout on the front panel and there is a small window below the
main dial for finer frequency readouts. I bought it from an old ham who said
he bought it out of the trunk of a salesman's car while he was a counter man
at one of the radio row stores in Philadelphia, Pa back in the 60s. I
couldn't get a good date from him but I also bought an NC-303 with the
Tri-X-500 and they both are in new condition. The guy I got them from never
put them on the air but stored them in his farm house attic under a big
quilt. Unfortunately, I've never put them on the air either for lack of
"round-to-it's." One of these transmitters was also sold on ebay a few
months ago to a ham near Rochester, NY for about $220. I've contacted this
ham and we plan on exchanging information as we bring the units back to
life. There doesn't seem to be many of the units around and so they may be
sleepers in the "Rare" world of ham equipment.
Good luck with getting the transmitter and if you do please contact me so I
can add you to the information exchange group.
Ted, W2TAG
