I use a mixture of half Formula 409 and half household
ammonia. Clean with a very small brush and only a few
square inches at a time. Make sure and have a lot of
paper towels available and wipe up the area that has
been cleaned immediately. Be careful around enclosed
things like i.f. cans.

Of course you need to make sure and have plenty of
ventillation because of the ammonia.

Here is an example of a unit that I cleaned using this
method:

What's the best way to go about getting most of it
clean without removing a lot, if any, of the parts?
Would a mild detergent and using those beveled sponge
brushes used for staining work? Pulling the tubes
first obviously. Not looking to do a full, stripped
down, restoration, just want to get it as clean as I
can before I use it.
