[Boatanchors] Hammerlund Recievers?

Having worked for National I can say that the NC-109 and NC-98 are rather
poor performers compared to a HQ-129X and 140X of the same general era.
I use a 129X regularly on AM & CW and with a little bit of work it does a
fine job. The 3 IF stages and an effective xtal filter are a plus. A BC-453
Q5er completes the package for serious CW work. I also have a pair of 140X's
and a 120X.
The NC-183 is a solid performer thru 20M and the 2 preselector stages do a
decent job on images; the NC-183D eliminates the image problem and is very
good thru 10M due to the miniature tube front end. The NC-173 is a scaled
down version but still a world above the NC-98.
Somewhat sleepers are the NC-200 and NC-240C & D, both nice examples of
Nationals golden years. With the catacomb coil rack they dont suffer from
bandswitch stability and attenuation on the higher frequencies.
I have all of the suggested Nationals mentioned in my collection.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Hammerlund Recievers?
How about some comment about Hammerlund receivers. We had our BIG hamfest in
about 3 weeks and I am looking for new (to me) GC receiver. My first choice
is a NC-109 or a NC-98. But those seem to be rare except on eBay. If I see a
NC-183 I may take it.
But there are always lots of Hammerlund receivers. I may consider one of
them.
It's not for SSB use. Just CW/AM.
