[Boatanchors] Replacing rect tubes with diodes question

You'll get numerous suggestions as this is a favorite subject for years
running.

The simplest solution is to drop the AC line down to 110V or so. You can do
this with a Variac or a small 12V filament transformer.

For my work bench I use a 7A Variac feeding a 8' long outlet strip. In the
shack and throughout the house I use 3-5A 12V filament transformers built
into a double duplex steel outlet box along with a Doug DeMaw line filter.
Since only the secondary of the transformer is used only it has to be rated
for the load; in your case 1A is sufficient.

Switching to SS diodes will save 10-15W and the slight extra voltage will
not hurt anything, period. I assume the S-40 has been recapped.

You can combine both steps above.

The 6H6 draws such little power it doesnt need to be replaced, however 1N270
diodes usually work well but I havent done a S-40 swap.
