Yes you can do it, but you need to be careful.

Make sure the chassis has no "paper products" on it such as IF cans,
slug tuned coils etc.  Transformers are also a problem, although I
forget why - I think it's because of fish paper used as gap material.
  No dial glasses unless you want then free of etchings;  no tuning
dials etc for the same reason.

What chassis are you contemplating putting in you wife's dish washer Joe ?

And, as Hank says,  dry very thoroughly!!!
