DENNIS PHARR
Dennis I've done many front panels of things like BC-348-- also the
cases.
Priority requirement is an understanding partner who hasn't got a
stranglehold on the kitchen oven.
Paint I use is VHT Wrinkle Plus brand , mnf. For PJH BRANDS, Scottsdale AZ
85258.
The coating is SP -201 A BLACK in a 11 oz. pressure spray pack . Guess you'd
get it at paint shops or auto accessory shops like I do here. Also
available in grey.
No primer required.... I use denatured alcohol (methylated spirits) to
clean surface----- thin coats give finer crackle .
I then bake in an oven (kitchen ) at ~ 200F for an hour or so. It smells so
get the missus away somewhere else.
I've never allowed room temperature to cure the paint as it allows all
sorts of life to settle and ruin the job.
In lieu of an oven, get a box with a high wattage light within to trap the
heat and bring on the crackle .The paint is used in auto work-- engines etc
, and will withstand high temperatures of 350 F
To restore the lettering on panels like BC-348 wherein the lettering is
raised, I use a sharp pen knife with a curved edge blade to carefully
scrape over the surface of the letters/numerals. Do this after a day or so
before the paint has hardened properly. It's laborious but worth the effort
if you want a good end result.
That's my method but I'm willing to learn from others .
Cheers
