You should be fine with a single speaker. I doubt you would damage 
anything.  Vacuum tube audio stages are pretty forgiving, and if it is a 
solid state output, lowering the load impedance generally only results 
in the audio PA delivering more power.


However, if you are worried about this,  or if the receiver doesn't 
sound "right" when driving only one speaker, and since you say you have 
several, you could always hook 2 like units in series (giving 8 ohms).  
It would probably sound better, too.
