Oh yes... ONE MORE THING.... IF you use an MFJ 259 or 269, you can read 
the freq of the crystal out on the MFJ unit... it will peak on the 
fundamental of the crystal...

If you use a signal generator, then put a freq counter on it and at the 
peak, the counter will read out the freq...

I've tested hundreds of crystals... Heathkit crystals can be compared to 
each other if you have some on the same frequencies... they become 
SOFT... hard to excite...  so the output gain of the signal generator 
can be decreased and compared with other crystals...  after a while you 
become aware of the "LEVEL" for a good crystal and a mediocre and a WEAK 
crystal... 
EXPERIMENT... have fun... it's fun...
