I am with Carl in using Scrubbing Bubbles, it is a great nicotine buster
and overall cleaner. Whatever you use, you do need to thoroughly remove
any residue and distilled water is best since tap water may have some
interesting properties depending upon your water source. Many cleaners
do leave a conductive residue so make sure you don't get them on band
switches, terminal strips, or other sensitive areas. Many cleaners will
also dull the finish on Bakelite knobs and if this happens to your radio
one of the car waxes containing silicone will restore the look.

One of the little Dremel tools with soft brushes can also save some
elbow grease.
