[Boatanchors] Some Trivia

Recent browsing of 1950's CQ Novice columns got me to thinking about the average age and years in ham radio of some of us ops.

I found 32 CW QSO's I've had so far this year which had the info concerning age and years in the hobby and this is what I turned up in a very unscientific survey:

32 CW QSO's...avg. age of op was 61.9 and avg years on air 39.

                          Oldest op..86, youngest 38

Max yrs on air...65   minimum 3 yrs

In looking back in the old novice columns, it seems a large portion of the novices were teenagers or younger (from my personal experience when I got on, in 1959, that was the case...a bunch of youngins having the time of our lives). I see numerous articles in our mags. about all these young folks getting in the hobby...where are they? They sure ain't working CW...must be on VHF.

Just a little trivia....Bill, K4JYS
