[Boatanchors] HQ 110 Sensitivity modification - The happy Hammarlund

Hi:
I have owned an HQ 110 for some time now and noticed that the overall sensitivity is lower in the SSB/CW position versus the CAL position.
In the manual Hammarlund states that in the CAL position (100 khz calibrator on) the sensitivity is increased in order that the receiver may detect the calibrator harmonics up to the six meter band.
I found an easy way to keep the sensitivity high regardless of the function switch position i.e. RECEIVE - SSBCW - CAL
Here's how to do it:
Remove the cabinet and flip the receiver onto it's back. Locate the single wafer function switch and the bare wire jumper (about 1 inch long) going between two lugs of the wafer. Remove and discard the 22k 1/2 watt resistor and .01 disc cap that is wired to a lug located between the ends of the bare wire jumper.
Take the now empty lug where the cap and resistor were and push it back into the bare wire jumper and solder it to the jumper. This completes the modification and the radio may now be reassembled.
The gain increase is well worth the 5 minutes spent doing the work.
