[Boatanchors] NC-183D Alignment Issue and query

I Can get the hf oscillator set properly on the high end of the bandspread
bandspread dial as called for in National manual in
all instances and but low end adjustment cannot be done.  On the 1.1 to 4
Mhz  (band D in this case)
range I am out well over 265 khz out with digital signat generator reading
at very best 2.065 Mhz rather than 1. 800 Mhz at bottom end and obviously
the "wire"
adjustment inside the inductor coil will not even come close to bringing the
frequency to 1.8 Mhz.  Has anyone directly experienced this alignment
problem and how
did you resolve the issue?  I understand high siding the oscillator and
listening for the image freq etc etc.  Of course this could be part of my
problem and just not seeing it but don't think so.  Again, anyone actually
had this issue and solved it???
