Hi Dave,
Did you let the smoke out, or did you get it that way? Not that it
matters much.
Most Halli xmtrs, and older rcvrs, oughta have the rectifiers replaced
by SS and the 5v winding pulled loose from the ckt. Many HT-32's & -33's
have had the problem, HV shorting to 5v, or to gnd..
If you just want to make it a user, you can use an outboard HP-23. Or I
suppose you could put the Heath xfmr in. I've done it (outboard), and have
some details on my website, look for the HT-37 - HT-32 comparison.
Beware of any used replacement until you've been very careful to dry it
out thoroughly, and meggered all windings to each other & to gnd.
